The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.Purpose of roleThe Predictive Services unit is responsible for decision support capabilities as an enabler to a multi-hazard intelligence function underpinned by networked regional and state capabilities across Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery (PPRR). A function of the unit is the generation of scientifically derived bushfire intelligence that is underpinned by local area knowledge. The team works closely with the scientific community, the Bureau of Meteorology, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), interstate emergency services and land management agencies to provide accurate and enabling intelligence for QFES.Reporting to the Manager, you will be a key member of the team, responsible for developing and delivering training relevant to Predictive Services capability. You will also be required to ensure specialist and technical training programs that are compliant with the Vocational Education and Training Framework. You will be required to collaborate with other departments and organisations including functions within QFES that support and/or deliver intelligence outputs and products relevant to developing and maintaining operational situational awareness and in meeting decision support requirements in a multi-tiered governance environment.Key requirementsHighly desirable requirementsExperience in developing and/or working within applied intelligence functions and their application in a disaster management and operational management response context.Have attained or willing to undertake nationally recognised training within the Predictive Services capability, e.g. Fire Behaviour Analyst (FBAN).Qualifications in relevant disciplines, including tertiary qualifications, knowledge and understanding of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangement and/or incident management systems such as Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System.A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or willing to obtain within a mutually agreed timeframe. Special requirementsIt is expected that the incumbent may participate in an on-call roster. This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours. You may also be expected to take part in deployments intrastate or interstate.Your key accountabilitiesYour part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:Contribute to the QFES multi-hazard intelligence function to collaboratively determine requirements, collect data and information, process, analyse and disseminate relevant outputs and products across all phases of disaster management and operations.Develop training pathways, products and systems that support competency requirements and/or national accreditation for specialist and technical areas for computer modelling/prediction and science.Provide high-level advice to senior executives and stakeholders on bushfire and all hazard mapping, associated risks and key issues which support disaster management and operations.Coordinate and contribute to the development and implementation of communication and education strategies to effectively liaise between QFES regions, other emergency services, groups and the community.
