Our client, a local government office located in Leederville, is seeking an experienced Senior Compliance Officer for 3-4 months.The Senior Compliance Officer is required to ensure development within the City complies with the relevant provisions of Local Government Planning and Building Legislation and Policies. This includes investigating, reporting and actioning any alleged breaches and providing guidance and advice to both internal and external customers. The Senior Compliance Officer supports the Coordinator Compliance Services in the day to day operations and supervision and mentoring of Development Compliance officers and other team members.
To be successful in this role you will require the following:
- Comprehensive knowledge of legal proceedings under relevant statutes, including the collection of evidence
- Comprehensive knowledge of statutory requirements and procedures pertaining to Western Australian Local Government, Planning and Building Legislation, and the Building Code of Australia
- Advanced level of ability to understand and to interpret approved plans and conditions, Acts, Regulations, Local Laws, Policies and the like
- Highly developed research, time management and written and verbal communication
- Demonstrated ability in problem solving and sound decision making
- Highly developed computer literacy skills with experience in the use of Microsoft Office and software relevant to local government
- Highly developed consultation and interpersonal skills that include listening, negotiating, problem solving, conflict management and counselling
- Highly developed organisation and administrative skills, with proven ability to effectively prioritise multiple projects and coordinate conflicting priorities to meet strict deadlines and achieve outcomes
- Sound Local Government knowledge
- Sound knowledge of the role of Council, its structure, services and departmental procedures with a strong understanding of programs, policies and procedures within Council
- Sound knowledge of current construction practices, procedures and principles
- Experience in providing high quality customer service
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team
- Minimum two years' experience in a compliance related field
- Experience in or a comprehensive working knowledge of Local Government development compliance
- Experience in attending tribunal or court hearings and giving evidence
- Qualifications and/or training in compliance related or local government development field.
- Current WA Driver's Licence
- Construction Safety Awareness "White Card" is desirable
