The role
As a Senior Environmental Officer, you will provide high level specialist/technical advice to the department's Executive, minerals and energy sector, general public and industry organisations and assess complex native vegetation clearing applications.
This role involves preparing reports, documents and correspondence related to assessments, complex applications, providing recommendation for approval or rejection to the application, carrying out duties of inspector under mining and environmental legislation as required, leading complex inspections of mining operations and monitoring compliance by managing incident and compliance investigations. Additionally, you will be responsible for mentoring staff members as required, preparing technical advice, assisting in drafting guidance material for industry and other stakeholders.
Your significant experience in environmental management, assessment of aspects and associated risks as well as preparing reports on assessments, investigations or research will be key to your success in this role.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months.

- A Bachelor of Science, Environmental Science or Natural Resource Management degree or an approved equivalent degree.
- Considerable knowledge and significant experience in environmental management including the assessment of environmental aspects and risks associated with mineral and petroleum proposals
- Significant experience in preparing reports on complex environmental assessments, investigations and/or analytical research.
