Shark Bay Salt Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. Ltd, which is one of the worlds most diversified trading, investment and services enterprises. We own and operate two salt fields in Western Australia – Shark Bay Resources and Onslow Salt.

The team employed by Shark Bay Resources, enjoy the combination of an atypical work environment and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Fishing and camping are common activities in the community with Shark Bay ranking as one of the most popular recreational fishing destination in Western Australia for small boat and shore-based anglers.
The local amenities include a small shop, library, fuel station, community centre and excellent schooling facilities catering to Year 6. An onsite medical service is available with a Doctor visiting fortnightly.
What we are looking for:
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following criteria:
- Develop, implement, and maintain Shark Bay Resources’ Environmental Management System, plans, programs and strategies, including rehabilitation and contaminated sites;
- Develop, implement, and maintain the site’s spatial data using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software;
- Scope, research, plan and manage environmental improvement projects providing reports on status and outcomes;
- Oversee, coordinate, and provide technical support (where applicable) to field personnel and contractors to ensure works are completed to specified standards;
- Develop the annual environmental operational budget with a strategic look ahead and provide input to the capital budget;
- Conduct workplace inspections and liaise with site supervisors to rectify non-conformances; and
- In-depth working knowledge of Native Title and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage legislation.
The Roster:
The successful applicant can either be based locally in the community at Useless Loop with company housing provided on a 5 days on, 2 days off roster or to be either DIDO from the Gascoyne regions of Western Australia or FIFO from Perth on a 9 days on, 5 days off roster.
The Duties:
- Demonstrated experience in preparing and implementing plans to manage site environmental risks.
- Extensive experience in environmental sampling and monitoring including data analysis.
- Proven experience in use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software, including ArcGIS, to perform mapping and data analysis tasks under own initiative and without supervision.
- Capacity to liaise with external Government and Non-Governmental agencies
- Establish and drive the direction of environmental excellence for the business
- Work autonomously and ensure Senior Management are kept informed on all facets of environmental performance.
- Effectively manage a small team of casual assistants with day-to-day field related activities.
The minimum requirements we seek:
- A minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in a senior site-based operational role
- Tertiary Qualification in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Holding a current WA “C” class manual Driver’s Licence.
- Be physically fit and able to work in a role that is predominantly outside, all year round.
- Be able to pass a comprehensive pre-employment medical assessment.
- National Police Clearance, not older than 3 months.
