The Environment, Heritage and Resilience department is home to the Waste and Resource Recovery Collections business unit. We provide services to over 269,000 domestic and commercial properties across the City, from operational support of our contract delivery partners and internal support areas. The team deliver an essential, valued and safe community service whilst generating annual revenue back to the City of circa $100 million.
Why work for the Waste and Resource Recovery Collections team?
An opportunity exists within the team for a Senior Field Operations Officer, to perform a key role in daily operations through the development and ongoing support of monitoring and safety related initiatives for the City’s waste collection services. This role will support the team goal of ensuring the safe delivery of waste collections and transportation, and sustainable management of the City's solid waste and resources. The team works as part of a fast-paced, collaborative, and interdependent business unit to deliver a city-wide essential service.
These services include waste and resource collection and transportation, materials recovery facility (MRF) operations, supply and maintenance of wheelie bins, bulky waste services, and related waste equipment services across all Gold Coast households and participating commercial businesses.
As the Senior Field Operations Officer, you will provide change recommendations, including but not limited to process and procedure alterations, based on a review of:
- Legal advice
- Legislation
- Regulatory requirements
- Contract commitments
- City Risk Register
- Previous reports

Your skills and experience should include:
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills that provide consistent, clear directions or guidance.
- Diverse experience in the risk management of service contract(s), ideally in waste management or another related utility field.
- Have exceptional analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- The ability to grasp complex and dynamic requirements, including legislation and policy.
- Previous experience in local government or private utility service industry.
- Excellent relationship building skills to maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and/or contractors that deliver balanced outcomes.
