Job description

We are seeking a high performer to provide expert operational advice in a dynamic fast-paced environment.  This person will be dedicated to constantly driving business improvement and fostering innovation through initiatives and forward-thinking solutions.

In this role you will lead a team that:

  • Contributes to the department's operational finance activities in accordance with accounting standards and departmental policy to ensure departmental transactions are properly processed and recognised including:
    • coordinating the department's banking relationship including signatories and payment security.
    • coordinates and maintains departmental corporate card system including reporting and compliance.
    • coordinates and provides oversight of departmental transactional processing including, bulk accounts purchase orders, tax corrections, journals, accruals.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of appropriate policies, procedures, guidelines and systems to facilitate and promote sound financial reporting across the department.
  • Coordinates and maintains relevant registers and reports in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures for the department.
  • Assists in the preparation of responses to urgent requests for financial information within short timeframes (e.g., questions on notice, Ministerial and management briefings, audit requests and position papers).
  • Contribute to team discussions for preparing creative and innovative approaches to financial operations, policy and governance support. This includes contributing to relevant internal projects and initiatives within the department.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in respect of asset accounting, reporting and governance issues.
  • Manages teams and resources wisely to deliver a broad work program and ensuring teams have the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise to meet their performance expectations and professional development goals.
