Job description

McLean Farms is a diversified family-owned agri-business based in Pittsworth, 30 minutes Southwest of Toowoomba. Specialising in livestock and food production, the business is involved with a broad range of agricultural enterprises such as grain, compost and feed mill operations.  We are currently on the lookout for a dynamic and experienced Senior Farm Manager to join our poultry department and manage our Free Range Farms. The successful candidate will be compensated with an attractive salary package, including a company vehicle for local use and house.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead by example in a team environment, setting clear expectations and overseeing the operations of the free-range poultry farms.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure the care and feeding of the birds, manage day-to-day operations smoothly, and maintain compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement production plans optimising bird health, welfare, and productivity. Manage financial performance through effective budgeting, cost control, and revenue optimisation.
  • Staff Management: Handle recruiting, training, and managing staff, including performance evaluation and feedback.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain up-to-date records of production, inventory, and farm activities.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Cultivate relationships with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks to farm operations.
  • Biosecurity and Health Monitoring: Implement biosecurity protocols and manage bird health, including vaccination and disease management.
  • Quality Control: Oversee the processing, quality control, packaging, and distribution of poultry products.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure farms meet all standards for animal welfare, environmental protection, and food safety.

Requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor degree qualification or 5+ years relevant and related professional experience;
  • Proven experience in poultry management and a comprehensive understanding of poultry husbandry.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and financial management skills.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare standards, biosecurity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in record-keeping and data analysis.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships.
  • Flexibility to respond to farm emergencies on weekends and adapt to changing circumstances.
