About the role
The City of Swan is looking for a highly organised, extremely proficient Senior Governance Officer for our Governance Team. This role is a great stepping stone to further career opportunities within the organisation.
In a fast paced, politically sensitive environment, the Senior Governance Officer provides high level support to the Council Support Manager to ensure Council’s compliance with its statutory obligations under the Local Government Act 1995 and other legislation.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising two Governance Officers who prepare the agendas and minutes for all Council and Committee meetings
- Increasing the governance awareness and capability of staff by developing, implementing and maintaining a governance induction programme
- Work with training providers to develop engaging, high impact governance workshops and tailored training sessions
- Proactively monitoring developments in the City’s governance environment
- Independently leading governance projects such as Ward boundary and local law reviews to completion
- Improvement of policies, guidelines and processes in line with governance best practice
- Assisting in managing Council code of conduct complaints

About you
Ideally you will have:
- Tertiary qualification in related discipline or substantial experience in a Senior Governance role (at least 5 years)
- Demonstrated ability to provide governance advice on various matters
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in interpreting legislation
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the Local Government Act 1995 and associated regulations
- Demonstrated ability to undertake research and analysis on governance related activities
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.

The salary for this position will be from $87,898 to $103,784 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
