The Child Protection Unit at Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick is looking for a dynamic, compassionate and enthusiastic experienced Social Worker with significant experience in Child Protection. This position is a level 5 Social Work position and it involves working as a Senior Health Clinician(SHC) on the Central Metro Joint Child Protection Response Program (JCPRP). You will be employed with us at CPU Sydney Children's Hospital but located primarily at Strawberry Hills Redfern with our Department of Communities and Justice Colleagues (DCJ) and alongside Police who are located close by. This position requires supervision of a level 3 Social Worker(Health Clinician) and involves working alongside/with another Health team from NSLHD. This position also requires you to participate in an After Hours Child Protection On call roster at Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick. This position is not for the faint hearted, can be stressful and emotionally draining but also extremely rewarding. We are a very supportive and family friendly team at SCH Randwick.
What you'll be doing
To Manage the Health components of the Joint Child Protection Response Program (JCPRP) response to Child protection referrals in partnership with JCPRP interagency partners, NSW Police and Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).
To Provide timely, high level advice on strategic, policy, and operational health issues to children and young people who have experienced sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and their non-offending family members presenting to JCPRP.
In conjunction with the Child Protection Unit Management, develop, evaluate, and review policies, procedures, strategies, and resources necessary to implement NSW Health’s responsibilities for children and young people who have experienced sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and their non-offending family members presenting to JCPRP.
  • Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology and/or clinical psychology with appropriate psychologist registration and/or eligibility for membership with the AASW.
  • Able to participate on an after hours Child protection on call roster.
  • Demonstrated ‘Senor level’ social work/psychology skills and experience in: - Working Children and Families who have experience Violence Abuse and Neglect - Providing therapeutic resources to victims of sexual assault and physical abuse and neglect of children. - Engaging with children, young people, families, and communities - Demonstrated ability to manage the development of therapeutic responses to meet demand and client needs. - Experience in the provision of crisis response and intervention to children and families.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in partnership with key multi-disciplinary and interagency stakeholders. - High level of written and verbal communication skills - Interagency negotiation skills. - Knowledge of relevant Local health district referral networks. - Working with a crisis response environment
  • Understanding of the legislation, Government policies, including NSW Health policies, and legal issues surrounding Child protection, sexual assault and the physical abuse and neglect of children.
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal communities and/or demonstrated understanding of issues surrounding child sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect of children and family violence in Aboriginal communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work, independently, under pressure, manage projects and meet deadlines with minimal management instruction.
  • Current NSW drivers licence.
