Our client is a large local council who is seeking the services of a Senior Investigation Officer for a 6 month contract role with a possibility of an extension.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
This position is responsible for leading, managing and reporting of relevant investigations into Council's operations, including governance, staffing, managerial and other disciplinary matters.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, investigations, or a related discipline.
- NSW Drivers Licence
Essential Experience
- Extensive recent and relevant experience in the conduct of sensitive and complex investigations (pertaining to Code of Conduct and Performance related matters), preferably in a regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of current administrative law principles and the capacity to apply these to sound administrative decision-making.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND OR EXPERIENCE
Desired experience in operating in a highly sensitive and confidential work environment within a legal, regulatory and/or investigations position.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Utilising recognised investigation methodology and applying associated/relevant legislation, policies and standards, the role will be required to undertake a risk-based approach to carrying out complex/sensitive reviews/investigations, including reviewing, analysing, and synthesising evidence gathered.
- Prepare detailed reports - which consider options for decision-making, identifying trends, systemic issues, individuals of concern, interaction with other agencies/authorities (where required) and other relevant matters - accurately and impartially summarise complex information, data and analysis, and make appropriate recommendations for consideration by management.
- Advise/brief executive and senior leadership on investigation outcomes and recommended outcomes are identified, understood, and communicated to facilitate delivery of strategic and/or operational outcomes.
- Develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships to collaborate, consult, exchange information, and build consensus with key stakeholders to assist in strengthening Council’s strategic and operational decision-making.
- Continuously identify, analyse, and evaluate key issues, recommend innovative options, solutions, practices, and processes to enable effective delivery of accountability and timely responses to stakeholders.
- Develop, implement and review relevant policies and process improvements to optimise the efficient and effective delivery of the required function.
- Ensure that evidential material and sensitive information gathered during investigations and inquiries is collected, secured, managed, and utilised in accordance with legislative and policy requirements.
- Build investigative capability across the organisation, including interpreting/applying relevant legislation, standards, quality assurance procedures, reporting requirements, best practice investigative models, policy, procedures, and guidelines.
