This is a newly created role and function within the unit, so we are looking for applicants with experience and/or strong knowledge in setting up a new investigations function, including supporting frameworks (systems, processes, policies, and procedures). This will be a key requirement for the duration of the 6-month contract (extendable). In addition, you may also be required to conduct internal audit work as needed.
The Senior Investigation Officer is responsible for leading, managing, and reporting on investigations into Council’s operations, including governance, staffing, managerial, and disciplinary matters. The role involves preparing detailed reports, advising executive leadership, developing policies, and building investigative capability across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage investigations into Council's operations, including governance, staffing, and disciplinary matters.
- Prepare detailed, accurate, and impartial reports summarising complex information, data analysis, and making appropriate recommendations.
- Advise and brief executive and senior leadership on investigation outcomes and recommendations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance Council’s decision-making processes.
- Continuously identify and evaluate key issues, recommending innovative solutions and process improvements.
- Ensure the secure management and utilization of evidential material and sensitive information according to legislative and policy requirements.
- Build investigative capability across the organization by applying relevant legislation, standards, and best practices.
About You:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, investigations, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in conducting sensitive and complex investigations, preferably in a regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of administrative law principles.
- NSW Drivers Licence (C Class).
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
- High-level analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards.
- Ability to work independently and exemplify personal integrity and self-awareness.
- Public sector experience is desirable but not mandatory.
