About The Role
The Systems Engineering Team at Metro Trains is seeking a qualified candidate to lead the transition and ongoing support of operational technology (OT) systems, including CBTC, ATS, Signalling, Networks, ICS, CMS, etc., introduced through major projects like the Metro Tunnel Project. The role involves overseeing the transition to operations, managing a high-performing team, implementing standardised systems and processes for maintenance, establishing supplier support agreements, and ensuring the successful delivery of the Annual Works Plan. The candidate will play a crucial role in technical design, integration, documentation review, test and commissioning resourcing and operational system support.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement processes, training, and tools to enhance the technical capabilities of the team and align project-delivered rail side systems with the MTM OCMS Operational Technology operating model.
• Provide leadership to a diverse team responsible for maintaining high availability and critical rail side systems and sub-system technologies, such as Signalling, Train Control, Radio communications, and control software.
• Manage contracted support services, ensuring adherence to SLA/KPIs and performance requirements.
• Collaborate with external technical/electrical maintenance and operations teams to support systems, capabilities, and project needs.
• Participate actively in workshops, planning, design, and integration activities to ensure compliance with Metro’s standards and broader technology strategies.
• Identify, minimise, and manage risks associated with supported systems, implementing effective controls, and driving a continuous improvement culture.
• Foster effective collaboration with various OCMS Functions, ensuring continual Collaborate with external technical/electrical maintenance and operations teams to support systems, capabilities, and project needs.
About You
• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications, Computer Systems,) or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia.
• Minimum ten years of Systems Engineering or related experience
• Previous experience and knowledge with rail CBTC systems that will support obtaining CBTC competency for Metro Trains.
• Demonstrated ability to build a high performing technical team delivering pathways to formal competency in the rail industry.
• Experience with the delivery and integration of large, safety focussed projects.
• Demonstrated ability to implement appropriate and fit for purpose processes to ensure
systems are monitored and maintained to agreed service levels and standards
