The role

The Senior Policy Officer, Junior Medical Officer Employment Team (JMET), MAPAU will assist in the delivery of a project to review the current employment processes and practical application of policy to enable greater longer-term employment security for the junior medical workforce engaged within Queensland Health, including implementation of extended contracts for resident medical officers and registrars.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Network and engage with key internal and external stakeholders relating to junior medical recruitment, employment, and prevocational accreditation requirements.
  • Provide support to the manager Junior Medical officer Employment Team, MAPAU to ensure strategic alignment through regular advice on project progress, impacts and intersections with other MAPAU initiatives.
  • Track, monitor and report on the status of projects and initiatives.
  • Identify and analyse risks and manage mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery of project outcomes.
  • Coordinate and provide effective administrative processes relevant to the recruitment and employment of junior medical officers.
  • Direct engagement with junior medical officers relating to issuances of contracts and management of medical rotations.

The successful person

To thrive in this position, it is essential to possess knowledge of or have the ability to swiftly acquire expertise in legislation, industrial instruments, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the recruitment and employment of resident medical officers, as well as medical officer prevocational accreditation, medical registration, medical specialty college requirements, and the structure, operations, and policies of Queensland Health. Successful candidates will showcase a high level of autonomy, consistently meeting deadlines, and adapting to change through strong initiative, organizational and planning skills, as well as effective time-management and problem-solving abilities.

Furthermore, the role demands demonstrated proficiency in project development and delivery for achieving desired outcomes. Candidates should exhibit advanced oral and written communication skills, coupled with effective consultation and negotiation abilities to engage with both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, a proven track record in high-level coordination, development, and authoring of comprehensive and intricate reports for diverse audiences is crucial for success in this role.
