About the Role
RN's flagship breakfast program is seeking a Senior Producer, who can work alongside the Executive Producer, and assist to lead and manage the RN Breakfast team to deliver a compelling, contemporary and entertaining daily radio program. You'll be joining a fun and supportive team that loves breaking news, setting the agenda and reflecting Australia's diversity across a wide range of stories and issues that inform and entertain.
You will work with the RN Breakfast Executive Producer and team to:
- Write and produce well researched, sophisticated and comprehensive briefs that engage and inform the audience.
- Originate, research and produce high quality stories in the form of packages, with an emphasis on strong journalism, good talent and high production values.
- Assist the Executive Producer substantially in shaping the daily program, forward planning and assigning producers to daily tasks.
- Output the live radio program to a high standard of accuracy and proficiency, providing guidance and direction to staff.
- Help to manage the program team and provide constructive feedback to guide, develop and encourage colleagues.
- Generate stories that are relevant to a broad section of Australians and reflect the cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity of the country.
- Contribute to the program's digital presentation on its website and on podcast apps, in line with best practice advice from the RN online team.
You are an experienced journalist and editorial leader, with a proven capacity to produce engaging audio content and to shape a compelling, contemporary and entertaining daily radio program.
You'll also be able to demonstrate:
- High level editorial skills with an excellent news sense and a wide knowledge of national and international affairs
- Advanced editorial judgment to curate a three-hour agenda-setting program with a broad agenda
- Proven capacity to handle pressure and work to tight deadlines in a live radio environment, with excellent communication skills
- Experience in producing sophisticated and comprehensive briefs on complex topics, as well as engaging audio packages
- An ability to manage and develop team members to produce outstanding quality work to tight deadlines
- Demonstrated organisational skills including experience with budget and resources management
- Highly advanced working knowledge of the ABC's editorial policies and a strong understanding of media law
