Job description

Our role 

We are the national end-to-end regulator of aged care services and are focused on delivering a world class sector that safeguards the welfare and rights of consumers. We are invested in engagement and education to: 

  • build confidence and trust in aged care 
  • empower consumers 
  • support providers to comply with quality standards 
  • promote best practice service provision. 

Our responsibilities 

We are also responsible for: 

  • granting approval for providers to deliver aged care services 
  • administering the Serious Incidents Response Scheme 
  • reducing the use of restrictive practices. 

We independently accredit, assess and monitor aged care services subsidised by the Australian Government, conduct home care investigations and determine provider compliance including whether any requirements or sanctions need to be imposed. We also resolve complaints about services.

The opportunity 

Reporting to the EL1 Assistant Director, the Senior Project Officer will be working in a newly established section of the Quality Assessment and Monitoring Group to support the Quality Assurance and Standards team on a variety of projects and deliverables including providing support in relation to management, review and development of guidance and instructions for our operational staff. 

As a Senior Project Officer within the Group, you will:

  • Provide support to project deliverables for the Reform for Better Aged Care (RBAC) program as directed.
  • Provide technical expertise in the management, review and development of guidance and policy documents (work instructions, tools, fact sheets etc).
  • Comprehend process workflows and develop supporting tools and guidance documents to support operational implementation.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain positive working relationships and respond to all enquiries and requests in a positive and timely manner. 
  • Be a change management and communications champion in relation to reforms. 
  • Provide timely, specific and meaningful feedback on proposed changes, guidance, tools and processes that impact operationalising regulatory reforms.
  • Apply strong communication and interpersonal skills and work constructively as part of a team and with internal stakeholders to promote continuous improvements.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing, including in relation to policies and guidance. 
  • A strong understanding of legislative, policy and/or regulatory frameworks, 
  • Knowledge of (or be able to quickly acquire knowledge of) the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission Act 2018, Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission Rules 2018, administrative decision-making principles and the Aged Care Quality Standards.
  • Experience in quality management, continuous improvement, process design or process improvement with high level attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness in work undertaken.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond positively to change, take responsibility for managing work initiatives and the ability to build capability and provide support to teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills supporting an ability to effectively manage interpersonal relationships and communicate with influence with internal stakeholders. 
  • Be an effective representative of the organisation, acting professionally (including adhering to APS Values & Code of Conduct) and operating within the boundaries of organisational processes and legal and public policy directions.
