We are seeking a capable and motivated Senior Work Health and Safety & Return-to-Work (WHS&RTW) Coordinator to support the team at the Parklea Correctional Centre.
Our Senior WHS&RTW Coordinator will help safeguard the company by ensuring that Work Health & safety and injury management practices are compliant with relevant legislation, safety management framework (SMF) policies and standards, and associated industry guidelines that affect our business. This includes the applicable acts and regulations and workers compensation legislation.
The key Senior WHS&RTW Coordinatorresponsibilities are to:
- Drive a positive culture, focused on incident prevention, through hazard reporting, assessment, and control
Identify areas of risk and develop and implement control measures to reduce harm to our workers, those within our care and other persons.
- Promote an organisational culture where incidents, near misses and hazards are reported as required and where investigations involve line management to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to resolution
- Liaise with workers compensation insurers, providers, and other stakeholders in the management of workers compensation claims. This includes the coordination of our Return-to-Work Program through injured worker and line manager engagement
- Report monthly on WHS&RTW performance and maintain WHS&RTW records according to the relevant legal requirements
- Convene and manage the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Committee and ensure adequate worker consultation at meetings. This includes incidents, audits, and the minutes of the HSR committee’s meetings are communicated to the senior management team
- provide expert advice, guidance and support on all matters relating to Work Health and Safety, and workers compensation
- ensure an efficient and effective Work Health and Safety function, which includes supporting and enforcing the company’s safety management framework. This includes supporting sister frameworks, with regards to compliance to ISO9001 Quality Systems and ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems
- provide informed advice and guidance in response to identified hazards, risks, and incidents
- deliver SMF training to workers, including the facilitation of WHS inductions for workers and contractors
- conduct and coordinate regular safety inspections and SMF audits
- serve as a role model for promoting Health and Safety in the workplace in line with Company’s vison and values as well as policies, standards, and code of conduct
- keep up to date and comply with all WHS&RTW legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and industry standards, (including any amendments which may be made from time to time) and accordingly update management as appropriate
Skills & Experience:
Desirable
- Minimum 5 years experience in Work Health, Safety and Workers Compensation case management within a large organisation
- Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety (or related field)
- Industry certification in Workers Compensation or Return-to-Work
- Accredited ICAM Lead Investigator or similar
- First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Proven expertise implementing health, safety, and return-to-work policies & procedures
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, acts and regulations, codes of practice, and leading industry standards
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to analyse industry trends and stay up to date with emerging WHS technologies
- Ability to deliver WHS education programs to key stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Advantageous
- Experience working within a corrections or detention facility (advantageous)
- Certificate III Correctional Practice
- Accredited in ISO45001:2018 Auditing or similar certification
- Experience in developing and implementing WHS Strategy
Mandatory qualifications and requirements:
- Ability to gain and retain all the police/security clearances required within our industry
- Ability to pass any required Health and medical assessments
- Ability to visit and work within a correctional or regional processing centre
- Ability to travel both interstate and overseas as and when required to meet the needs of the business
- Proven right to work in Australia
- Willingness to undergo alcohol and drug testing as required of the business from time to time

The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate security clearances from New South Wales Police and Corrective Services New South Wales prior to appointment.
