VOYAGER SAFETY PYY LTD: Our company is a locally grown sales and service station of the ship and offshore Industry related Life Saving Appliances (LSA) and Fire Fighting Appliances (FFA), hand-crafted by long-term Darwin residents with 20 years of experience in the industry. We also provide many surveys and consultancy services for shipping-related matters, including large ships and domestic commercial vessels. We serve many regions in the NT, including but not limited to Darwin, Gove, Groote, Bing Bong, Melville Island and Port Keats. We provide our services to several clients, including those in the Offshore Industry, International Fishing Fleets, Tourism Shipping, Domestic Commercial Vessels, and Recreational Vessels. It includes multibillion-dollar Liquefied Natural Gas companies of Darwin SANTOS and INPEX, one of the largest Pearl companies in the world, Paspaley Pearls, local shipping companies Sea Swift, KOTUG, TSA, Bhagwan and many others. Our company was started in 2018 by four founding partners, each with their specialities.
We currently seek an Energetic and Passionate Ship Officer to fill the roles of Assistant Marine Technician (LSA & FFA) and Ship Surveyor based in our Darwin Office. It is a unique opportunity for seafarers to enter a shore-based occupation.
Reporting to the Chief Technician and Marine Surveyor, the assistant LSA/FFA Technician & Surveyor is responsible for assisting with the onboard service and maintenance of Marine Lifesaving and Firefighting Equipment. The position will also assist with different ship-related survey work.
Skills and Experience:-
- A minimum of 3 years experience working on board with responsibility to maintain LSA and FFA equipment of the ships.
- Life Raft and Life Jacket servicing experience prefered.
- Understanding of ensuring compliance with regulations about LSA and FFA equipment for safety at sea.
- Understanding of maintenance and replacement of LSA and FFA equipment under the Safety Management System of the ships and their flags.
- Understanding of periodic surveys of LSA and FFA equipment of a ship to ensure standards are maintained.
- Understanding of different types of commercial third-party surveys conducted on board. (Draft, on and off hire, Bunker etc.)
- Having a valid forklift operator licence.
- Having a valid driving license from NT.
- Be able to undertake training courses as required.
- Be prepared to increase the knowledge base around compliance and regulation.
- Build positive relationships with customers.
- Comply with NT WHS rules and regulations.
Key area of responsibilities: -
- Assist all LSA and FFA Technicians in servicing general LSA and FFA equipment, both in the field & workshop.
- Test parts and systems to ensure that they are working correctly.
- Follow the necessary checklists to ensure that all critical parts are examined.
- Identify worn and faulty component needs by the company standards.
- Provide service and customer support during field visits or onsite.
- Manage all onsite installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks.
- Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.
- Assist Surveyors with surveys conducted on board.
- Produce timely and detailed service reports.
- Document processes in an accurate manner.
- Be able to work autonomously & unsupervised, with a can-do attitude.
- Cooperate with the technical team and share information across the organisation.
- Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations and briefings.
