Who are we?

Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.

We work to address the social determinants of health including the broader issues that affect our people's health, through evidence-based research and public advocacy. We also work to empower individuals, families, and communities to optimise their health.

SUMMARY

The mental health practitioner is responsible for the provision of high quality culturally safe, trauma informed counselling and SEWB therapeutic services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults and children in a clinic-based setting to SEWB clients who present with a broad range of issues relating to self-esteem, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, anger management, grief, and loss, sleep disturbance, domestic violence, sexual problems, relationship issues and substance misuse.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing high quality counselling services including clinical, risk assessment and therapeutic treatment to SEWB clients in our care.
  • Deliver trauma informed based therapies to SEWB clients in our care.
  • Maintaining high quality mental health case notes and reports.
  • Support ongoing development and delivery of evidence based SEWB/MH strategies and practice
  • Strengthen and maintain beneficial working relationships with other services, agencies groups and families' processes.
  • Act only in ways that advance DDHS objectives, values and reputation and with honesty, integrity and good faith
  • Other duties as required, consistent with skills and experience, as directed by the relevant member of DDHS.
  • Actively model DDHS Code of Conduct Policy, Privacy and Confidentiality of Health Information Policy.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Territory Qualifications in Social Work or Psychology along with current registration with AHPRA or relevant association.
  • Membership of Australian Association of Social Workers/ Australian Counselling Association.
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history; and an understanding of social, health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current issues, standards, and trends in the delivery of mental health and social and Emotional Wellbeing services to Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in the Mental Health, Social and Emotional Wellbeing assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation methods appropriate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with clients, carers, and other professionals from diverse cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports of a high standard.
  • Proficiency in and commitment to the use of electronic information systems for the maintenance of clinical and service delivery records.

 Desirable

  • Knowledge of the relevant legislation guiding clinical practice for this position.
  • Current or previous experience working in a mental health setting.

EMPLOYMENT IS SUBJECT TO

  • Willing to undergo a Police Check.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
  • Current driver's licence.
  • Current CPR certificate or the preparedness to gain one within 6 months of commencement.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or an exemption as listed on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) be submitted.
  • Full rights to work in Australia.
