About this Role:
As Sous Chef, you’ll work closely with the Lead Chef to oversee all aspects of our kitchen productivity, from successful running of service to the budget and schedule. This includes managing our kitchen team, monitoring inventory, and ensuring all dishes are created to the high standards. The ideal candidate will have experience cooking in a cafe kitchen and executing food to a high standard. Shifts will require early morning starts with a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities & Duties- Produce high quality plates both design and taste wise.
- Ensure that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our quality standards.
- Fill in for the Lead Chef in ordering and directing food preparation when necessary.
- Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situation.
- Order supplies to stock inventory appropriately when necessary.
- Comply with and enforce food safety standards.
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.
- Prepare food items using various cooking methods. Observe and test food being cooked.
- Ensure proper care, maintenance, and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and supplies.
- Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently and meets standards of quality.
- Fill in for Lead Chef as needed.
- Manage and train kitchen staff, coordinate schedules, and oversee their work.
- Order supplies and stock inventory as needed.
- Deep knowledge of cooking methods, equipment, ingredients, and procedures.
- Ability to problem-solve on the spot and give clear directions.
- Experience as a Chef/cook in a commercial kitchen
- Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
- Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions
- Can help guide and mentor a team of young cooks
