About the role

Grampians Health provides Speech Pathology across acute, sub-acute, residential and community programs for patients/clients presenting with a broad range of communication and swallowing disorders. Members of the team participate in a wide range of specialist clinical services, project work and research. The service has a strong focus on mentorship and supervision and supports ongoing personal and professional development.

This is a full-time fixed-term position for a duration of two years, and we strongly encourage new graduates to apply for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical skills in assessment, planning and implementation of appropriate intervention across a designated Speech Pathology caseload, including both adult and paediatric rotations, across non-admitted, admitted and care communities
  • Use of evidence-based, problem solving approach to clinical care
  • Working as part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team
  • Ensure the smooth transition of clients through the health care system, liaising with relevant staff and community agencies to ensure continuity of care for individual patients / clients and their families 
  • Attendance at relevant ward rounds / case conferences, family meetings and community MDT meetings

Skills and experience

  • Practising membership with Speech Pathology Australia (Provisional or Full)
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Knowledge and experience in assessment, treatment and management options for paediatric and adult clients presenting with a broad range of communication and swallowing difficulties and a demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge 
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with others in the pursuit of team goals
  • Highly professional and effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to working in a rural health organization
