About the role:
An exciting opportunity exists within the Business Support Division, Operational Infrastructure Department (OID) for an experienced and talented Strategic Advisor to join this Division and support the Department in strategic planning, governance and provision of high-level advice.
The Strategic Advisor duties will include but are not limited to: managing and preparing various correspondence, undertaking research and analysis across policy and legislation, developing high-level briefings and reports for various audiences and external agencies, governance and reporting of audit recommendations and assisting in their implementation, conducting project work as required, providing advisory support across the four Divisions to achieve outcomes and assisting OID in its strategy and service delivery objectives. The position is also required to liaise and collaborate across internal and external stakeholders, seek out innovations in processes and procedures, and identify opportunities in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department's operations and customer centricity.
The ideal suitable applicant will have proven experience working within a dynamic and diverse workforce, proficient office management skills and an ability to lead by example the values of the organisation. They will need to be highly motivated, displaying workplace resilience when working under pressure and have strong interpersonal skills.
This role sits in the Executive Support Unit within the Business Support Division, who provide a common and consistent support service to the OID Divisional heads, such as co-ordination and/or writing of correspondence, meeting and calendar management, secretariat, reporting governance and other tasks and functions that will assist and support divisional executives to gain efficiencies and effectively deliver and lead frontline service delivery.

Your duties will include:
Preparing high quality and comprehensive briefs, written reports and correspondence that are tailored to the needs of the audience and provision of recommendations, options or solutions on highly complex issues.
Effectively leading and being accountable for the delivery of high quality, innovative, cost effective and efficient executive support services aligned to management initiatives, key strategic projects, policies and programs.
Providing timely, authoritative and expert advice and solutions to senior Victoria Police personnel on complex issues to support the strategic direction of the Department and organisation.
Providing guidance, monitoring and action to ensure progression of key correspondence received via the Divisional heads or Office of the Executive Director.
Incorporating “best practice” for the delivery of executive support services within the Department.
Developing and maintaining strategic partnerships by collaborating with relevant stakeholders and external organisations.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively negotiate with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Strong critical thinking skills (can analyse/interpret/synthesise/evaluate information; identify key concepts and gaps; propose solutions).
Demonstrated ability to manage priorities within tight timeframes and allocate/manage workload accordingly.
Initiative and experience in the preparation and provision of high-quality advice and reports, with recommendations and solutions.
Experience in developing and maintaining relationships at a senior level with internal and external stakeholders.
Proven ability to deliver high quality business outcomes that support the strategic direction of the organisation.
Maintaining knowledge of current internal and external issues and risks, with the ability to respond, investigate and advise in a responsive manner.
A demonstrated ability to behave ethically and to exercise sound judgement when making decisions, developing solutions, and leading and managing people.
Requirements and relevant information:
One (1) x full-time, fixed term (until 08/02/2025) position available.
This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer St Docklands.
