STRUCTURES TEAM LEAD

THE POSITION

The Structures Team Lead  is a qualified professional with extensive experience in the planning, design, construction and project management of civil/structural and corporate infrastructure projects. This position will undertake and project manage structural building and infrastructure projects for a broad range of clients, including Local Government, State Government and private developers.

Within the Moloney & Sons Engineering business, the role will also be responsible for:

An additional marketing and work search function which involves promoting Moloney & Sons Engineering to the civil and structural sector in Queensland and NSW, with the aim of securing additional work in this discipline. The position will work with Moloney & Sons Engineering’s Directorin this regard. As part of this role, the opportunity to increase Moloney & Sons Engineering’s capability in the civil infrastructure and corporate functions in Queensland and NSW should be pursued. The role will also assist with management of the Company systems and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

  • Engineering Design and supervision of all structural building & infrastructure related projects, including as necessary any civil/structural infrastructure works. 
  • Provide a high level of technical and design input into a variety of civil/structural related projects. 
  • Provide sound engineering advice and infrastructure management relevant to minor and major development projects, consultants, developers, agencies and authorities. 
  • Prepare designs, specifications and other tender documentation and produce clear and concisely written reports. 
  • Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness and mature judgments in anticipating and solving design problems. 
  • Oversee preparation of civil/structural construction documents in keeping with the firm’s design philosophy. That philosophy is to provide the client not only what is necessary from a permitting standpoint, but also to provide the client with a set of documents which will allow the successful bidder to construct the project efficiently and with minimal changes in scope of work. 
  • Planning and project management of the design and construction of structural and civil infrastructure projects for both Private and Public Sector clients;
  • Marketing of Moloney & Sons Engineering’s civil/structural planning & construction engineering services and pursuing additional work for Moloney & Sons Engineering in the abovementioned infrastructure sectors;
  • Liaison with Clients, Councils, Government agencies and Contractors;
  • Engineering investigations and preparation of technical reports;
  • Contract administration of construction works;
  • Assistance and training to junior staff as required;
  • Assisting with the development, review and implementation of Moloney & Sons Engineering’s processes and systems; and
  • Contribution to the management of the Moloney & Sons Engineering office/virtual environments. 

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

The incumbent is an experienced and motivated senior engineer with sound technical knowledge, effective communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in a team environment. The ability to investigate issues and present sound and innovative solutions is crucial. A ‘C’ Class Driver’s License is essential. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

The position requires a degree in Civil Engineering with at least 10 years’ experience in structural/civil engineering and the design, construction and project management of road and civil infrastructure projects. 

Certification as a Registered Professional Engineer, Queensland (RPEQ) is a mandatory requirement of this position with Eligibility for membership of Engineers, Australia.

  • Ability to work as part of a team is essential;
  • Sound computer skills in a variety of applications including:
    • Word processing;
    • Spreadsheeting; and
    • Project Management packages;   

KNOWLEDGE

  • Sound knowledge of public and urban infrastructure design and construction practices in the areas of structural and civil infrastructure projects is essential;
  • Sound knowledge of Project Management principles is essential;
  • Sound knowledge of the development approvals process is desirable;
  • Knowledge of the design and construction of other urban infrastructure (eg, residential/commercial/industrial buildings, mining, roads, water, sewerage & drainage) is desirable.
