Harrisdale Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Student Support Officer to join our team.
As the Student Support Officer, you will lead programs tailored for Senior School students, collaborating with educators, parents, and external partners to ensure a holistic and supportive learning environment. Working alongside the Student Services team, your primary focus will be supporting the attendance, behavioural, and social/emotional developmental needs of students, identifying and resolving barriers to educational engagement to facilitate improved academic achievement. You will support the implementation of a social and emotional wellbeing program for students across all pathways.

Your role will be pivotal in planning and implementing advocacy programs, with a strong focus on pathway planning, tracking the Western Australian Certificate of Education, and providing pastoral care to support students in achieving their best.
Harrisdale SHS is one of the largest schools in Western Australia, with a student population of over 2000 and approximately 200 teaching staff and 100 support staff. We offer a comprehensive Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) program, including high-quality Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), General, and Vocational Education Training (VET) based courses, as well as specialist programs such as Gifted and Talented, Specialised Music, and various sporting and cultural clubs. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict.
- Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Well-developed research, conceptual and analytical skills and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
