The Opportunity
Visy is a global leader in packaging and resource recovery and has been a pioneer in sustainability since our inception. Utilising our unique closed loop systems, we collect and sort paper, cardboard, glass, plastics and metals from multiple streams, maximising recyclable content to be re-manufactured into valuable packaging and, in the process, reducing both reliance on natural resources and waste going to landfill.

We have an exciting new role for an experienced and passionate Sustainability Manager to join our dynamic team. As our ‘Sustainability Manager – Carbon and Climate’, you will be a senior leader within the business and instrumental in designing and executing strategies to identify and manage our climate impacts, develop carbon reduction roadmaps and champion climate-positive practices across our operations. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing Visy's sustainability roadmap, driving initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, and ensuring compliance with sustainability related regulations.
The role could be based at any of our Visy sites Australia wide for the right candidate.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager – Sustainability you will be responsible for leading Visy’s response to climate including developing climate and carbon work programs. You will also have a Sustainability Analyst reporting to you and supporting you to achieve your goals.
Working strategically towards long-term goals, your key responsibilities will be but not limited to:
- Lead the identification and integration of sustainability and Climate related risks and opportunities into business strategy and governance
- Lead the delivery of Visy’s Carbon and Climate-related regulatory disclosures.
- Lead delivery of customers’ and suppliers’ Carbon and Climate-related projects and outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability principles into product design, manufacturing processes, and packaging solutions.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to carbon emissions, climate impact, and sustainability goals.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to Carbon and Climate initiatives.
- Engage with stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and partners to drive sustainability initiatives and foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
To be considered you must have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science, Sustainability, Engineering or related field.
- Significant experience in sustainability management, specifically focusing on carbon reduction and Climate strategies within a corporate environment, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated experience in climate change, such as developing climate reduction pathways, developing scenarios analysis, or completing physical and transition risk assessments, with a strong understanding of climate science
- Exceptional project management skills with a knack for effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
- Familiarity with Australian sustainability regulations and international sustainability frameworks (e.g., UN SDGs, NGERS, TCFD / ISSB).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful sustainability initiatives with measurable results.
- You pride yourself on your outstanding communications skills and it is your ability to build relationships with external and internal stakeholders from all levels that makes you a true enabler.
