An opportunity at Pine Rivers State High School exists for a skilled, committed and enthusiastic Teacher Aide to work in our Home Economics Department/Wellbeing Hub, until 05 July 2024 unless otherwise determined. This role is offered on a part-time basis working 0.66 FTE and 50 hours per fortnight.
This unique opportunity allows for a balanced workload, working alongside with our students on internal retrieval and in our Home Economics department.
The successful applicant must be capable of supporting a learning environment by assisting and supporting the Home Economics teachers through setting up of equipment prior to classes, maintenance of stock and equipment; purchasing of stores, general cleaning tasks, and providing support as required.

About the Role
Your role as a Home Economics Teacher Aide:
- Set up the classroom prior to a demonstration of a lesson by a teacher or in preparation for students themselves to partake in a practical lesson.
- Purchasing supplies required by Home Economics Department by liaising with teachers developing a list of supplies and purchasing from the local supermarket in your own transport.
- Basic cleaning tasks and replenishing of supplies in the kitchens following completion of student classes. For example, wiping bench tops and sinks, filling soap detergent bottles, collecting used tea towels, and refilling stores of food items.
- Laundering of used tea towels and other soiled linen from the kitchens. Fold, replace the clean linen in the appropriate storage room.
- Perform basic administration tasks to assist the teacher as required. These may include photocopying, monitoring stock and equipment loans, phone Schools Officer and arranging quote for repairs with Trades.
- Once per year you will complete a stocktake of all equipment used by the students and staff in the Home Economics Department. Tasks include a thorough cleaning of all surfaces (e.g. ovens, bench tops, cupboards), washing all equipment (e.g. mix masters, cooking utensils), labelling and restocking all equipment (e.g. cutlery, crockery).
Your role as a Hub Teacher Aide:
- Relevant experience working in an educational setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, teachers and parents.
- A caring and empathetic nature with the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by students and the ability to provide appropriate support
- Flexibility and adaptability to work as part of a job share arrangement
