About the role

The successful applicant will ideally show the professional knowledge, practices and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant general English curriculum year 7-12. As part of this role, you will engage and build productive working relationships with students and be involved collaboratively with your colleagues to improve student results and support literacy outcomes. You will also ideally have knowledge in using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) in managing student behaviour.

The successful applicant should have the ability to work collaboratively to plan and implement effective teaching and learning plans. They should be data driven when planning for improved student outcomes. Applicants will ideally provide excellence in creating and maintaining supportive and safe learning environment and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.

With effective interpersonal skills, the successful applicant will work closely with students, colleagues and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students. Ideally, the successful applicant will challenge and confront complex and conventional practices to provide successful outcomes for students, and continually reflect on their own practices to enhance performance. The ability to adapt with and utilise technology within the English learning area would be highly regarded.

Our school

Dongara DHS is a proud Independent Public School in the Mid-West Education Region, located in one of the most desirable coastal locations in Western Australia

Our academic programs are supported by a very high standard of delivery, and we offer our students the opportunity to participate in extension programs using online learning through the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) for Years 11 and 12 and on-site delivery of PEAC in Geraldton for Years 4 to 6. Year 7 students are provided with a comprehensive transition program in readiness for entering secondary school. We have a partnership with tertiary institutions through the ASPIRE program which supports our academic Year 9 to 11 students to identify university pathways.

There is a high level of parent involvement in the school. Regular P & C meetings are made up of a core of enthusiastic and committed parents. A pro-active unincorporated School Board plays a vital role in the formulation of the school vision, goals and policies and monitors the operation and outcomes of the School Business Plan.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
