St Patrick’s College, Strathfield is a Catholic school for boys in the Edmund Rice tradition offering a quality education to over 1,400 boys from Years 5 to 12. It began with an enrolment of 39 boys in 1928 and today offers a quality education for over 1400 boys and young men, ordinarily aged from 10 to 18.

Permanent full-time position with flexibility to commence either Monday 22 July 2024 (Term 3) or Term 1, 2025 (by negotiation)

Following a valued staff member’s retirement, we are seeking a suitably qualified and highly motivated Teacher Librarian to join our Library Services Team. Reporting to the Head of Library and Information Services, you will be an exceptional educator with a deep passion for creating and nurturing an information-rich learning environment. You will conceptualise, develop and deliver syllabus linked learning activities and resources based on the library’s collection develops, and coordinates the library’s high quality, responsive learning programs for 7-12 students and teachers. This role will direct the daily planning, staff and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. The successful candidate will ensure that collections and programs run by the McGlade Library (Senior Library) are appropriate to identified community needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the McGlade Library. 
  • Provide input and support for the McGlade Library budget. 
  • Read, promote and market library collections and resources. 
  • Selecting, developing, organising and managing information sources, services and appropriate technology to meet the educational, cultural, recreational and professional needs of the school community. 
  • Assist with collection and resource development and management of information resources in variety of formats. 
  • Providing access to reading material that informs, engages, extends, challenges and enraptures readers. 
  • Provide assistance to students and staff using the technology, information systems, and digital technologies. 
  • Working with teachers to develop reading programs. 
  • Helping students choose appropriate reading material. 
  • Collaborating with teachers to lead inquiry and research-based lessons through the library. 

As the Teacher Librarian, you will have your own teaching allocation. You will be a committed to the achievement of excellence, a strong collaborator and confident in using effective pedagogy and classroom management. You will be someone who has proven success in delivering the best possible teaching practices and learning experiences, integrated with a thorough content knowledge and mastery of the curriculum.

Essential Criteria

  • A working understanding of, and commitment to the Catholic ethos of a School in the Edmund Rice tradition.
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice.
  • Demonstrated excellence as a classroom teacher. 
  • Qualified Teacher (note subject/s you are qualified to teach) with NESA Accreditation and approval to teach in NSW.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications, including Teacher Librarian qualifications.
