The Ponds High School (TPHS), located in the suburb of The Ponds in the north-west of Sydney is a 7-12 comprehensive High School that has over 2200 students in Years 7-12. 53% of these students come from a non-English speaking background and 0.3 % identify as ATSI. The school shares a site with Riverbank Public school and is a part of an innovative and energetic community approach to teaching and learning. The school has developed outstanding teaching and learning programs including; a strong wellbeing approach using Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, a culturally inclusive program and support for the creative and performing arts. The school has two support classes, a HP&GE class in each year and has an active BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program supported by the learning management system (LMS) Canvas. The Stage 5 and 6 elective structure provides extensive choice for students. Current whole school learning and teaching priorities include; using Canvas for effective learning and a Teams structure to support SIP priorities including; Assessment, Choice Theory, Literacy, Numeracy, Aboriginal Education, HP&GE, EAL/D and School Culture.
TPHS has two Teacher Librarian positions who work collaboratively to manage the library’s resources and facilities, school resources to support our BYOD program and the delivery of non-compulsory curriculum in stages 4 and 5.
Approval to teach Secondary Library or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in the teacher Librarian qualification approved by the Department of Education NSW. (see special note)
Specific selection Criteria
- Highly developed communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff to support improved learning outcomes for students with a wide range of interests and abilities
- Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills to run a school library
- Capacity to encourage and promote a variety of reading, viewing and listening experiences to support student engagement
- Ability to support students Stages 4- 6 to develop research, critical thinking and technology skills
Special Notes
If applicable engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Teacher Librarian qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 24 months.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
