Job description

Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/TCH888745

This is a permanent part-time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2024

Mosman Park Primary School (PS) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Music Teacher to join our friendly and collaborative team.

The successful applicant should possess a strong knowledge of the curriculum and effective teaching approaches across the Music curriculum. They should be student focused and have strong interpersonal skills while working collaboratively in a Specialist Team. We currently have a Performing Arts specialist (0.4FTE) who has established a long and vibrant history of music making and performance across the school. The successful applicant would be required to work collaboratively with this teacher and program. The Music Teacher will ideally have strong evidence based developmental and well sequenced music pedagogy (such as Kodaly or Orff) and be able to prepare our School Choir for performances such as the Massed Choir and the WAGSMS (WA Government Schools Music Society) concerts. The Music Specialist should be able to liaise with Music Departments in the local high schools for successful student transition.

Mosman Park PS was established in 1906 and has a strong community feel, with enthusiastic parental support. The school has an ambitious and nationally recognised Reconciliation Action Plan which would need to continue to permeate the music program. The ability to run a choir, support staff with their assembly items, teach and lead the singing of the national anthem and school song (the latter in both English and Noongar) is fundamental. As we are co-sited with the Mosman Park School for Deaf Children, they must have a willingness to work with this school and learn the school song and national anthem in AUSLAN.

The Instrumental Music School Service program operates in our school from Years 5-6 with specialist guitar and brass offered. The music teacher would be required to coordinate testing and placement for this program. Our Music Department is well resourced with a range of xylophones, ukuleles, drums and keyboards. The successful applicant would have the opportunity to further develop the program and resources.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

Applications will be assessed against these domains. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

Applicants currently completing the Department of Education Leap program (formerly known as the Switch program) can apply for vacancies using their current or Leap qualification – even if they have not completed the program at the time of applying. Applicants may be appointed to a vacancy based on the qualification being completed via the Leap program.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
