Kalgoorlie School Of The Air (SOTA) is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Primary Teacher to join their high quality regional school.

About the Role

This role will suit someone who is team focussed, highly motivated, and passionate about creating exciting, culturally responsive learning experiences to engage students in distance education.  

The Ideal Teacher

The successful applicant should be a collaborative, active and flexible staff member, who displays high interpersonal and problem-solving skills. You should have a passion for play-based, hands-on-learning and be able to balance this approach with explicit teaching and learning in all curriculum areas across year levels. A sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, WebEx, Heggerty and Letters and Sounds is ideal.

This role will include planning and engaging with the following:

  • Western Australian Curriculum;
  • Whole school approaches and policies;
  • Student data to improve teaching and learning;
  • Professional learning, peer observation and the performance management cycle;
  • Development of student programmes and online lessons;
  • Regular feedback to parents and home tutors regarding student achievements;
  • Home visits to students with overnight stays as required;
  • School camps with overnight stays as required;
  • School and wider community by fostering and maintaining positive communication and relationships.

Our School

Kalgoorlie SOTA is the largest primary school in Western Australia by area, covering over 750 000 square kilometres. Most of our students are geographically isolated, living on farms, pastoral stations, roadhouses, remote communities, mining leases and itinerant families. The school is very well resourced and located in Boulder in a charming building that is over 110 years old with well-maintained grounds and student playgrounds.

Our friendly staff currently consists of a team of six teachers, a Support Teacher Learning, a Principal, a Manager Corporate Services, and various quality school support staff. Kalgoorlie SOTA works in close partnership with the School Council, the Parents and Citizens Association and the larger school community. Our positive, challenging and differentiated educational program allows children to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to become confident, independent learners.

The Location and Community

Located in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia, Kalgoorlie Boulder is situated 590 kilometres inland of Perth. Kalgoorlie Boulder is a modern, vibrant city; the largest Outback City in Australia, with a population of more than 30,000 people. It is also the largest urban centre in the Goldfields region and the fifth largest in Western Australia, with a wealth of treasures set against a backdrop of some of the world's best architecture.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
