Your Position:
Burwood Council is looking for a passionate and experienced Team Leader to manager a small team of general labourers and contractors as well as supervise the construction and maintenance of council assets. You will be responsible for a variety of duties including concrete and road maintenance, general labouring and cleaning as well as parks and garden maintenance works.
Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:-
- Supervision of staff within team as well as other teams when required
- Control the operation of maintenance jobs as directed
- Maintain Council's roads, footpaths, kerbs and gutters and drains
- Maintain Council's buildings and amenities which includes graffiti removal
- Maintain Council's car parks, traffic devices and parks when required
- Assess customer issues that can be dealt with immediately and notify the customer of the course of action
- Train staff in the correct method of performing duties such as labouring, pipe laying concrete, hot mix laying, drain cleaning, mowing.
- Making sure that works are adhered to all WHS legislations
To be successful in this role you will have:-
- Demonstrated experience in Civil Works in areas such as concreting, drainage, general maintenance etc.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and supervise the work activities of an outdoor team
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to peers, direct reports, external customers and supervisors
- An ability to operate minor plant and equipment
- An understanding of the principles of EEO, WH&S and cultural diversity and how they are applied in the workplace
- Relevant TAFE Certificate or equivalent (Civil Works)
- Traffic Controllers Certificate and Implement Traffic Control
- Plans OR preparedness to obtain these qualifications
Key Requirements:
- WHS Introduction to Construction Certificate (White Card)
- MR Licence
- COVID 19 vaccination for all employees (2 Vaccines)
- Willingness to complete a National Police History Check
- Willingness to complete a pre-employment health assessment
