Details: Working with Community Services Directorate (CSD) offers you the opportunity to directly contribute to supporting the Canberra Community. Everyday our diverse workforce collaborates and drives client centred services to assist the community in creating a safe and equitable environment across the ACT.

Youth Justice and Adolescent Services (YJAS) is a Branch in CSD with a newly expanded remit. Previously only responsible for custodial youth justice services, the YJAS is undertaking significant policy and service design reform work, including to operationalise the ‘Raising the Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility’ reform and build new service relationships– both within the ACT Government and the community sector.

The Therapeutic Casework Support team (Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility (MACR)) within YJAS is a service response for children aged between 8 and 12 years old. Functions of this team include assessment, case management and referrals to support services for children referred to the Therapeutic panel. Case management support for children subject to Therapeutic Treatment Orders will also be undertaken by this specialist team.

Working closely with the Chair of the Therapeutic Support Panel, the Team Leader, Therapeutic Casework Support Team will be focused on providing strong leadership and mentoring to a multi-disciplinary team who strive to deliver best practices in Therapeutic Casework Support for children and young people who engage in harmful behaviours, as well as their families and communities, including appropriate support for First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse people. The Team Leader will also manage a caseload of children and young people.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:

  • Experience and/or a desire to work in a community services environment is essential.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science or related discipline is essential.

Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply.

  • CYPP 4 must have at least five (5) years of practical experience working with children, young people and/or their families in a social work/case management role.
  • Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • This position requires a Working with Vulnerable People Check. Prior to commencing in this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 will be required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable people registrations, refer to Access Canberra.
  • Driver’s license (C class) is essential.
  • The successful candidate will work in accordance with and uphold the ACT Public Service Values and Signature Behaviours, ACT Government’s Respect, Equity and Diversity Framework and the Directorate’s Work Health and Safety System.
