Blackwater Mine

Located in Central Queensland, BMA's Blackwater Mine is one of Queensland's largest coal mines. It is situated approximately 21 kilometres from the town of Blackwater.

The BUMA Australia team has been performing truck and excavator pre-strip operations at Blackwater since May 2012. Over 35 million bank cubic metres of material is mined by our fleets every year. Our fleet at the mine comprises a combination of Komatsu 930E and Caterpillar 789C haul trucks with Hitachi EX8000, Caterpillar 6060 and Hitachi EX3600 excavators.

Job description:

As the Technical Services Superintendent reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Leading a team that includes mining engineers, surveyors and environmental professionals
• Identifying obstacles and implementing strategies to achieve budget production and commercial targets
• Managing the process of developing improvements to the survey, mine planning, environmental and drill & blast management methods, and systems
• Providing accurate mine plans to allow all operational activities to be delivered to contract specifications
• Working closely with the maintenance team with scheduled servicing plans and identifying issues that impact production
• Identifying and acting upon continuous improvement opportunities in the technical service area
• Assisting to achieve project KPIs and setting of objectives and KPIs for work teams as needed
• Providing clear leadership and direction and promoting and fostering a positive team culture
• Providing coaching, mentoring and development opportunities for direct reports
• Developing and managing the site production forecast to meet contract volumes and requirements
• Compiling weekly/monthly client reports
• Compiling site budgets and forecasts with the assistance of the corporate accountant
• Developing the client monthly claim
• Assisting accountants with accrual information for end of month closure

Profile description:

About You

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Surveying or Geology
• At least 5 years' mining engineering experience (contract mining experience is desirable but not essential)
• Proven leadership experience of Technical Services teams in a medium to large scale mining operation is preferable
• Competent user of Microsoft office packages as well as mine planning and scheduling software (Spry, Vulcan, etc.)
• Strong ability to communicate technical information to all work groups
• Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of business solutions that are innovative, robust and commercially optimised
• Flexible, practical, easy to deal with, lateral thinker
• Demonstrated ability to engage and manage multiple stakeholders
• Contribute to and promote a safe, healthy work environment for all employees and contractors to assist in providing a safe and incident free workplace
