Maxima's Recruitment Services is currently seeking highly motivated individuals for the position of Technical Officerwith our esteemed State Government client.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Technical Officer, you will play a crucial role in managing the day-to-day operations of the sample receipt and preparation team at our Chemistry Centre. You'll ensure the delivery of high-quality analyses within deadlines and foster a workplace culture.
Samples working on: Water, soil, sediment, and plant samples
Equipment working on: analytical balances, pH meters, spectrophotometers, chromatography equipment such as HPLC and GC, mass spectrometers, incubators, autoclaves, centrifuges, extraction equipment, digestion equipment like Kjeldahl digesters, hot plates/stirrers, and filtration equipment.
Methodology/processes used: Conventional analytical preparation techniques such as Kjeldahl digestion, extractions, and hot nitric acid digestions. Utilisation of databases, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), statistical and word-processing software
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and samples (soil, plant, water) for analysis.
- Operate various laboratory equipment including digestion blocks, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, etc.
- Receive, label, and allocate samples using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Enter test data into LIMS and verify data transcription.
- Compile and utilize simple spreadsheets for laboratory applications.
- Liaise with management and staff to review workloads and prioritize tasks.
- Supervise and train peers, students, and other Chemistry Centre officers.
- Maintain Workplace Health and Safety Standards and good laboratory practices.
- Foster a workplace culture supportive of First Nations people and engage in work to improve outcomes.
Requirements of the role:
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team and managing high throughput sample management and preparations
- Proficiency in analytical skills related to soil and plant preparation techniques
- Experience in using databases and LIMS
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Contribution to workplace equity and diversity
- Tertiary Academic Qualification or Degree in chemistry or applied chemistry
