About the roleThe newly created role of Therapeutic AdvisorChild Safety is a permanent fulltime position based in Townsville reporting to the General Manager of Child Safety. As a Therapeutic Advisor (Child Safety), you will play a crucial role in supporting young people and families who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect. Your expertise will contribute to the development and implementation of therapeutic interventions, ensuring the safety and emotional well-being of young people across the selectability footprint.
Main duties:
- deliver Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training and monitor the ongoing roll out of the system across the program
- develop and deliver Therapeutic Training programs to Child Safety staff
- develop, implement and review Positive Behaviour Support Plans (Child Safety specific) for each young person
- develop individual Crisis Management Plans (ICMP) for children and young people who display high risk and challenging behaviours
- assist with the intake of new young people to the service through implementing controls to assist with risk assessments and Therapeutic transition to the service
- convene and host ongoing individual case conferences for children and young people
- assist teams in the development of individual safety plans for children and young people
- identify potential restrictive practices and provide mitigation strategies and/or seek approval from funding bodies in the use of any restrictive practice
- contribute to the development, facilitation, and evaluation of group work programs
- support Youth Workers in developing their capacity to self-manage their own responses and responding to crises in relation to a child including though not limited to, identifying the triggers and other factors associated with the incident, safely deescalating the incident, and debriefing the child or young person
- be the Child Safety behaviour expert.
To be considered for this rewarding role you will have:
- bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Psychology, Social Work, Human Services
- registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional body
- experience working with children and families in a therapeutic capacity
- knowledge of trauma-informed care and child protection principles
- maintain a strong knowledge and application of the HSQF standards and child protection legislative requirements
- strong written & verbal communication skills
- a commitment to best practice
- ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- ability to travel across our footprint from time to time, to remote locations
- the ability to work flexible hours (some out of hours work required)
- most importantly… a positive attitude
You will also need:
- a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence
- a currently registered, roadworthy, and fully comprehensive insured vehicle
- a Positive Notice Working with Children (blue card) (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
- a current yellow card exemption or an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety & You' completion certificate (visit https://training.ndiscommission.gov.au to access this free module). at completion of the course, you will be provided with a certificate of completion which you can forward to **@selectability.com.au
