Job Title: Volunteer and Members Engagement Manager

Location: Chiswick, hybrid

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as Volunteer and Members Engagement Manager, known internally at BSI as the Standards-Makers Engagement Manager.

BSI's standards are a statement of good practice; they improve the quality and reliability of products and services, enhance consumer protection and confidence, help to achieve efficiencies, protect the environment and facilitate trade. This role is an exciting opportunity to join the team driving change in standards-makers engagement and inclusion and tasked with increasing participation and diversity.

The Standards-Makers Engagement Manager plays a key role in helping BSI to deliver its objectives around equity, diversity and inclusion in standards development and standards and in driving excellence in bringing stakeholders together and establishing BSI's leadership in convening eco-systems.

The role holder will lead ownership for a portfolio of projects and activities which includes standards-makers recruitment, retention, recognition, nominating organizations and the autumn Standards Conference.

We can offer flexibility around working hours / days and home / office-based working to accommodate the full-time equivalent workload although there are some Conferences and events which we would prefer all team members join in person.

Responsibilities:

  • To serve as "Recruitment Manager" for implementation of the committee member and chair recruitment process and to participate in the ongoing development of our approach to recruitment.
  • To champion the retention and improving the experience for committee members and nominating organizations in their relationships with BSI through proactive involvement in internal and external comms and programme development.
  • To play a lead role in overseeing and in on-going development of the new committee member onboarding process.
  • To have primary ownership of the autumn Standards Conference & Awards while maximizing the impact of the input from the Conferences & Events and Marketing teams as well as other colleagues in the continued growth and success of these events.
  • To take on and further develop other areas of Standards-makers Engagement & Inclusion as and when required.

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience working with volunteers and/or members, including recruitment and retention activities, including those who are technical subject-matter experts, and in administering volunteer / membership management policies and procedures.
  • Established networking and relationship development skills with diverse stakeholders, volunteers, and organisations.
  • Excellent people skills, primarily exceptional communication and collaboration skills, allowing you to influence others and develop allies.
  • Self-motivation and ability to achieve objectives independently as needed.
  • Experience and confidence in working directly with volunteers and across multiple, diverse internal stakeholder groups.
  • Competent ability in working with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
