About the opportunity
The Water and Wastewater Technician role sits within the Water and Wastewater business function of the Engineering Services department. Key to this role is the ability to use specialised knowledge and organisational skills to achieve and progress Council's Water & Wastewater operational goals and objectives. This is a diverse and challenging role, which will allow you to apply and enhance your technical skills across a broad range of Water and Wastewater operations.
In this role, you will:
- Provide technical and organisational support for the operation and maintenance of the water infrastructure assets and services to ensure clean and safe drinking water
- Provide technical and organisational support for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater infrastructure assets and services to ensure efficient wastewater collection and treatment to ensure Council is compliant with their relevant legislative and licencing requirements
- Data collection, analysis and preparation of reporting to council, funders and legislative bodies
- Implementation of processes and procedures for regulatory compliance in Water and Wastewater
- Assist with Water and Wastewater projects allocated to Council's Engineering Services as required.
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- Demonstrated minimum five years industry experience in Water and/or wastewater operations
- Practical knowledge and understanding of Water and Wastewater treatment plant operations and performance
- Qualifications in Water or Wastewater fields are highly desirable
- Previous engineering experience in a rural or remote area would be highly desirable
- The ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience and ability to work in a team environment
- A high level of computer literacy and the ability to quickly learn how to operate and apply computer applications
- Current Class C Drivers Licence would be highly desirable
- The ability to be culturally responsive by demonstrating an understanding of the issues affecting Torres Strait Islander people and communicating with sensitivity and effectiveness.
Occasional travel to the Torres Strait Islands is requirement of this position.
