Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/SS877277

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Comet Bay College is seeking to appoint a hard-working and dedicated Workplace Learning Program (WPL) Officer. The WPL is the main focus for many of our students as they work towards creating meaningful employment pathways post school.

In this role you will coordinate WPL and Vocational Education and Training (VET) operations. Locating industry placements and ensuring collaborative and positive partnerships with employers, you will assist in developing and introducing systems and strategies that provide a responsive and effective WPL program.

Effective planning and organisational skills would be beneficial to this role as the successful applicant will be required to administer records and databases using a variety of software packages and assist in the planning and sustainability of work placements.

The successful applicant will also provide advice and communicate with the school community and parents to ensure suitable post school outcomes for students. Liaising with key stakeholders, the Workplace Coordinator will track student attendance, extra support needs and behavioural issues. The Workplace Coordinator will also coordinate parent information sessions and support in student transition meetings to ensure positive outcomes for all students.

Comet Bay College is a modern, state of the art educational facility catering for students in Year 7 to Year 12.

The college is situated in the coastal community of Secret Harbour, 64 kilometres from Perth and draws from a large demographic of students. Our motto is 'Seek Excellence' and this underpins everything we do. Students are encouraged to perform to their highest standard and while academic achievement is promoted, outstanding effort is also celebrated, because true excellence is a constant quest for improvement.

We understand each student has individual needs and dreams and our dedicated staff work hard to provide supportive and caring learning environments to ensure all students can strive to be the best they can be.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Learning outcomes and contexts with the ability to induct employers and students on Workplace Learning procedures and requirements.
  • Initiative and sound organisational skills with the ability to work independently to achieve planned outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Well developed keyboarding and computer skills, including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Sound written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to deal with individuals at all levels and work cooperatively with a broad range of people.

It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
