Job description

Lead and inspire within a long standing and diverse Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

This is a dynamic and rewarding role, as TAIHS is a unique organisation, providing a varied range of services across multiple facets of our community.

TAIHS was established in 1974. At that time, it was the fourth Aboriginal community-controlled health service (ACCHS) established in Australia. TAIHS provides comprehensive primary health services and a range of community services. TAIHS seeks to improve health and social outcomes for the community through strategic partnerships advocacy for needs, promotion of awareness and education in improved health and social practices, the promotion of knowledge and understanding of underlying issues to address the unique patient and client needs and the development of evidence-based practices.

As our Youth Justice Manager you will provide leadership, strategic input, management, oversight and direction to the youth services activities within TAIHS and direct supervision and support of the associated teams and Leads.

About the Position

To provide support and leadership to the Youth Justice funded and focused programs within TAIHS.  Associated programs include: the Lighthouse Afterhours Diversionary Service (Lighthouse), Bail Support Service (BSS) and the Intensive Bail Initiative (IBI).  The position is responsible for the oversight of service delivery that effectively supports optimal care and service provision, together with equitable access for all clients.  This position also involves supporting continuity of care across the service continuum with a view to meeting and/or exceeding the individualised needs of clients and their families.  You are responsible for the oversight of the funded programs, for having contributions in local and statewide Youth Justice initiatives and for the overall management of the associated programs. You will be responsible for employee management and performance, program development, the quality and compliance of the associated programs, and have financial oversight of the programs.

About You 

To be suitable for this position, your qualifications, experience & licenses for the role will consist of:

  • Qualification/s (Diploma Level or higher) relevant to the field of discipline -community, youth or Youth Justice sector 
  • Minimum 5 years experience working within the community, youth or Youth Justice sector
  • Proven experience with working with young people and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or vulnerable people and/or clients within the Youth Justice sector
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in the provision of program services relevant to the community sector
  • Demonstrated as possessing highly developed communication skills with the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate positive program outcomes in collaboration with clients, internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability in quality service delivery and the functional aspects of a multi-disciplinary service team; including the provision of advisory support to staff and clients, and the use of information systems to support service delivery
  • Ability to display initiative, self-motivation, time management and solution focused skills
  • Demonstrated ability in team management, including the provision of supervision and performance management
  • Experience in working with Budgets, program expenditure and reporting
  • Ability to pass a National Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Records 
  • Current Blue Card (Queensland's Working with Children Check) 
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)
