The outcomes from these programs not only guide, mentor and empower Aboriginal young people, they also improve Aboriginal young people’s health and wellbeing and their communities beyond.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position, classified under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
This employment opportunity is only available to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
As the Youth Transport Officer, you will provide transport for Aboriginal children and young people for appointments, programs and groups within the Geelong region.
The Officer may be required to assist Aboriginal Children and Young People at appointments as necessary and will work with other stakeholders involved in supporting Aboriginal Children and young people.
You will also assist with the setting up for programs and groups. Effective communication and time management skills are essential as is the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information effectively.
As the position will be based with the Strong Brother Strong Sister, to meet the transport needs of the community, it is essential that the successful applicant holds a current Full Victorian Drivers license and also preferably a Light rigid (LR) license.
A key aspect of the role is working with the Strong Brother Strong Sister is to provide holistic, culturally safe support whilst advocating and representing Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people's voices everyday and providing grassroots support that create immediate life changing experiences and connections to identity and belonging.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Supporting Aboriginal Young People and children with transport.
- Supporting Aboriginal Young People and children with social, emotional, health and wellbeing support and/or referral pathways (when appropriate) to ensure Aboriginal Young People and children have strong connections to improve and maintain positive social, emotional, health and wellbeing.
- Supporting Strong Brother Strong Sister with youth groups, groups activities, school holiday programs and/or group related activities that benefit outcomes for Aboriginal Young People and children.
- Ensure excellent case management and data collection for all Aboriginal Young People and children engaged in programs and services.
- Supporting Aboriginal Young People at appointments when appropriate.
- Other tasks set out by the senior management.
