About The Role:
The position of Animal EthicsExecutive Officer key purpose is to coordinate the workings of the Bendigo Kangan Institute Animal Ethics committee, and to ensure that the institute meets its legislative requirements under the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes. Compliance with this legislation is mandatory for the use of animals for teaching purposes.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Assisting in the development and tracking of SOPs and Applications governing the use of animals in teaching.
- Scheduling Animal Ethics Committee meetings
- Animal Ethics Committee meeting document preparation and distribution including application documentation, agenda and minutes.
- Developing and reviewing compliance documents such as institute policies and procedures.
- Documenting, reporting and guiding the follow-up of animal emergencies, complaints and unexpected adverse incidents
- Organising and preparing for audits
- Submitting annual animal use reports to Animal Welfare Victoria
- Preparation and distribution of annual reports on the workings of the Bendigo Kangan Institute Animal Ethics committee and of the institute's animal project involvement.
- Checking and ensuring we are meeting legislative requirements and Animal Welfare Victoria guidelines
- Involvement in the review and redrafting of government legislation e.g. Prevention of cruelty to animal's act.
- Other duties as directed.
