Yarra Ranges Council are seeking a Head of Governance, Risk, and Compliance. This role will oversee the coordination of our Council’s governance system, process and frameworks, including risk management, compliance, and Council insurances. As the custodian of Yarra Ranges’s governance operations, policies, and processes, you will ensure high-level performance and Compliance with all relevant legislation, especially the Local Government Act, 2020. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact by providing strategic leadership and fostering a culture of accountability and transparency.
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Governance, Risk, and Compliance team, delivering exceptional customer service to employees, Councillors, community members, and stakeholders.
- Provide values-based and supportive leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality services in corporate governance, risk management, policy development, audit, compliance, insurance, business continuity, and infringements and appeals.
- Promote and embed a positive risk culture, integrating risk management principles into all aspects of planning and decision-making.
- Coordinate Council meetings, elections, Councillor induction, and training sessions.
- Manage r Council’s risk registers, insurance portfolio, including claims management and renewals.
- Develop and maintain a contemporary policy suite for Council, ensuring consistency, relevance, and effective communication.
- Coordinate legal advice provision to the organisation, optimising investment and protecting Council’s interests.
What you’ll bring to our team
- Demonstrated experience in governance, risk management, compliance, or related fields.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Sound knowledge of the Local Government Act.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and stakeholder relationships.

- Full-time permanent position (38 hours per week).
- Salary range between $121,469 and $136,000 (Band 8) per annum, plus 11% superannuation.
