About the role
The Executive Officer is a key position at WorkSafe that supports the strategic leadership, planning, and delivery of the Integrity Risk and Resilience (IRR) Business Unit. The EO supports the Executive Director in ensuring the strategy, plans, and programs across IRR are aligned to the delivery and execution of the WorkSafe Strategy and Purpose.
Critical to the role is coordinating the reporting and communication to key stakeholders, committees, and forums on the programs and performance of IRR. These include the WorkSafe Board, the Risk and Finance and Audit Committee, other Board sub committees, the Victorian Government, Executive Leadership Team, WorkSafe employees and other stakeholders.
Key accountabilities
- Provide strategic advice to the ED and to the IRR Senior Leadership team (SLT) through the identification of innovative solutions, to problem solve emerging and topical high risk and sensitive matters, considering the implications of decisions and actions.
- Manage the executive operations of the Office of the ED, including recommendations and decisions on complex and confidential matters, management and oversight of ED communications with key business partners and stakeholders (Chief Executive Office, Board Secretariat, Government & Executive Services), considering required context and the organisational impacts and reputational risks of the information provided.
- Lead IRR’s internal and external reporting requirements, including to the Board, Board sub-committees and the Executive Group Meeting. Authoring and editing communications to demonstrate compliance, achievement of strategic outcomes, influence enterprise-wide solutions, and communicate IRR’s outcomes in alignment to WorkSafe’s strategy.
- Implement WorkSafe’s Strategy through the development, monitoring and reporting of IRR’s annual business plan, including leading ongoing dialogue to influence the re-prioritisation of programs of work, to ensure alignment to organisational objectives and emerging strategic priorities.
- Establish the annual and quarterly budget setting processes and ongoing monitoring of IRR finances in collaboration with relevant business partners, the SLT and the ED.
- Oversee risk management, business continuity and compliance activities, both for IRR and the wider organisation – providing leadership and guidance on risk mitigation strategies, controls and business continuity based on technical people expertise.

You are a business professional, with experience in providing strategic, authoritative advice in a complex operating environment. Your strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills enables you to build trusted relationships with a range of stakeholder groups. As a highly organised professional, your critical thinking skills allows you to execute to plan and deliver results.
Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:
- Advanced writing skills, including the ability to prepare concise briefing documents, reports and communications to internal and external stakeholders – to drive outcomes.
- Senior technical risk skillset, with demonstrated operational and strategic experience working in a Risk function.
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills including the ability to recognise emerging issues of importance.
- Strong ability to undertake effective research and analyse material.
- Strong project management and problem solving experience in bringing people together to leverage off individual expertise.
- Ability to develop strategic best practice human resources solutions for implementation in an agile environment.
