Reporting to the Assistant Director, the APS6 HR Business Partner plays a critical role in providing high-quality HR services and strategic advice that fosters consistency and best practices across our organisation. This position operates within an agile team and places a strong emphasis on client focus.
Key Responsibilities:
As an APS6 HR Business Partner, you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the department's compliance with legislative obligations.
- Working independently with a reasonable level of autonomy and accountability for achieving outcomes.
- Exercising initiative and judgment in interpreting policy and applying HR practices and procedures.
- Providing accurate, timely, and easily understandable HR advice to contribute to strategic planning, program and project management, and policy development.
- Effectively engaging with stakeholders on complex issues, anticipating and responding to their needs and expectations to achieve departmental and organisational outcomes.
- Interpreting policies, practices, procedures, and work instructions in alignment with relevant employment legislation and business practices.
- Supporting management with performance matters, employee relations, and contributing to best practice knowledge for HR-related projects.
- Demonstrated experience in workforce planning, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to present information to diverse audiences.
Our ideal candidate for this role will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Strong track record in service delivery, program management, and demonstrated team leadership.
- Experience in a similar APS HR role.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the APS legislative framework, relevant legislation, and associated policies, guidelines, and procedures related to recruitment, workforce planning, and capability development.
- Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to resolve complex HR issues.
- Highly developed organisational skills, including effective project management and the ability to meet tight deadlines in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a talent for negotiation and maintaining productive working relationships.
- Demonstrated experience in workforce planning, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to present information to diverse audiences.

- Australian Citizenship (Essential)
- A relevant degree in HR Management or a related discipline is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret data and problem-solve.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Excel proficiency.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Public Service Act 1999.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Fair Work Act 2009.
