About The Project
The project will deliver a major upgrade of the M80 Ring Road between the M80-Plenty Road interchange and the North East Link tunnel entrance at Watsonia, providing a seamless connection to North East Link. Works includes 2km of new freeway upgrade, 3km of new freeway, separation of local roads from the freeway, bulk earthworks, retaining walls, bridge structures, rail interface works, intelligent transport systems, urban design and landscaping. This diverse and challenging project will be complete in 2028.
Key accountabilities for the position
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments through workshops and develop strategies to mitigate potential hazards.
- Develop and implement ongoing education initiatives to enhance safety awareness. Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for all project personnel.
- Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses. Prepare detailed incident reports, analyze trends, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Conduct regular safety audits to assess compliance and effectiveness of safety programs. Perform on-site inspections to identify potential safety issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Evaluate and approve safety plans submitted by contractors. Monitor and enforce safety standards among contractors and subcontractors through workshops and forums.
- Facilitate clear communication of safety policies and procedures to all project stakeholders. Ensure that project teams are informed about safety updates and changes.
- Establish and track key safety performance indicators. Use metrics to assess the effectiveness of safety programs and identify areas for improvement.
Required Skills and Competencies

- Lead Auditor qualifications in WH&S management systems
- Diploma of Work Health and Safety or equivalent advantageous
- ICAM Lead Investigator
- Training and Assessor Certificate 4
- Strong understanding and a working knowledge of H&S practices (including occupational Health and Hygiene and HVNL COR), Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice
- Strong stakeholder management experience and well-developed communication to build collaborative and effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Experienced leading several safety advisors/coordinators/trainees and providing mentoring guidance
- An ability to take the lead on complex reporting and safety audits in line with Acciona standards
