The Branch is responsible for the delivery of communication, education and community engagement products and activities that are engaging, accurate and inclusive.The OpportunityIf you’re passionate about Australia’s democracy and bringing your expertise to support the Australian community to enrol and vote, we have the job for you! This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and skilled education professional to work on some of the most impactful engagement activities across government.The Assistant Director, Community and Adult Education works with a small team of staff to deliver a range of activities to educate voters about Australia’s federal electoral system, and their rights and responsibilities during electoral events. The role manages matters relating to delivery of the AEC’s community and adult education program, including resource development, co-design with target audience groups, consultation with internal and external stakeholders, project management, procurement and contract management, and program evaluation. The role will also be involved in some delivery of Electoral Education to school-aged learners.This role will help mature ensure the AEC’s adult education offering ensuring our community education program is customised to suit the needs of audiences who may need additional support to participate and is delivered using inclusive and modern adult education techniques. The role will work collaboratively with business areas across the AEC, and specifically with our Community Engagement team and our Indigenous Electoral Participation Program. It will drive innovative approaches to the way provide education to voters.To excel you’ll have:

  • Experience as an education professional with the ability to apply expertise and manage education projects to achieve strategic outcomes.
  • The ability to think strategically by providing significant contributions to innovation and business improvement strategies.
  • Demonstrated the ability to implement change including delivering results while managing competing priorities for you and your team.
  • Experience developing and managing work plans, implementing monitoring processes that ensure work is on track and delivers against strategic objectives for the team.
  • Experience managing staff and performing diverse tasks, ensuring quality outputs.
  • The ability to stay positive and calm under pressure, overseeing a team delivering significant and complex projects.
  • Collaborative skills with the ability to build and manage relationships with business areas and external stakeholders, to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.
Mandatory
  • ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration, or eligibility to obtain on commencement
Desirable
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant professional experience in education, teaching, training and assessment, or a related field.
  • Experience with the use and implementation of contemporary digital education resources such as video casting, serious or educational games or virtual reality products.

  • AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
  • Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
