The Role
As Assistant Director of the Enterprise Change Management Directorate you will be responsible to lead a team that will uplift Change Management capability across the Department, be the custodian of the Defence Change Management Framework, Guide & Toolkit, support significant high profile projects, understand and deliver on their Change Management requirements and help design and deliver key strategic organisational Change Management activities.
You will collaborate with professionalism and engage with stakeholders from across the Australian Public Service (APS) and Defence to share your knowledge of change and how to manage change, actively advocating for the consistent use of the Department of Defences’ Change Management Framework. Ideally our successful candidate will be experienced in the field of Change Management, be an enthusiastic team manager with strong stakeholder engagement experience and highly developed communications skills. Experience in organisational transformation programs or knowledge of is highly desirable.
About our Team
The Enterprise Transformation Branch provides the vision and framework for long-term, enterprise-wide transformation and the ability to manage change. The Branch includes both the Defence Transformation Office and Enterprise Change Management Directorate. Responsible for continuous transformation that will enhance Defence’s capacity to adapt as our strategic circumstances change.
Adaptation and agility are central to Defence’s ability to fulfil its role and meet its commitments to the government and to the Australian people. The Enterprise Change Management Directorate has been established to improve how the Department of Defence manages change and to embed a consistent and contemporary approach to Change Management.
This includes sharing the concepts of Change Management, maintaining and ensuring the approach to Change Management is contemporary with the ownership and review of the Defence Change Management Framework and improving the experience of Defence employees navigating or responsible to lead change.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Has solid experience at the project or program level in Change Management or transformation.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team to facilitate contemporary, timely and accurate reporting as well as actively supporting delivery for large transformation programs.
- Has a proven ability to deliver results in a fast paced and evolving environment.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and enjoys critical thinking and collaborating to solve complex problems.
- Have a high degree of self-motivation and a positive attitude to change.
- Has strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with key stakeholders.
- Has analytical skills to support integration of Change Management or transformation work across the Defence Transformation Program.
- Possess strong written skills to support development of briefs and talking points and engagement opportunities.
- Be interested in contributing to developing, assessing, implementing and monitoring Defence transformation concepts and strategies.
- Staff management experience in leading high performing teams and developing junior staff.
- Professional qualifications or relevant experience in Change Management, behavioural Change Management or Change Management design.
- For the transformation role: qualifications or relevant experience in project management, program management or transformation.
