The Opportunity
As the Assistant Landfill Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations and planning of our landfill site. You will be responsible for managing project planning, overseeing infrastructure projects, coordinating contractor activities, conducting regular audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for our Kemps Creek Landfill asset. This role is perfect for a professional with a background in quarry or landfill management who is looking to make a significant impact in waste management.
- Assist in the development and execution of the sites master filling plan;
- Deliver critical site infrastructure such as roads, leachate & stormwater projects;
- Manage contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and environmental performance.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly audits to ensure operational compliance and assist with EPA reporting requirements (WARRP).
- Support weighbridge operations and assist with on-site payroll and HR processes, including timesheet management, and rostering.
- Contribute to the sites bottom line through P&L initiatives and cost reduction projects.
- Engage with external stakeholders when required including the local community, neighboring businesses, EPA, Council, and safety regulators.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
About You
- Prior experience in a landfill, quarry, or similar industrial setting is essential;
- Technical understanding of landfill, quarry or similar industrial setting;
- Proficiency in project planning and management, with experience in infrastructure projects and contractor oversight.
- Familiarity with EPA reporting and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in identifying and addressing operational issues and non-compliance.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build meaningful relationships with all stakeholders.
