Bereaved Parent Support Northern Territory T/as Amber NT is seeking a Bereavement Support Officer to deliver vital Bereavement Support to NT families.
Bereaved Parent Support NT Inc was formed in 1985 and supports Territorians impacted by the loss of a child from conception up to the age of 18 and includes pregnancy after loss and movement of foster children.
Support is offered for miscarriage, stillbirth, termination, sudden illness, accidents, SUDI (incl. SIDS), suicide to parents, family, and the community. We have a part time (0.5 FTE) 28 hours per week position available for start in the last week in June 2024 to join us as a Family Support Officer.
ASPECTS OF THE ROLE INCLUDE:
- Deliver Bereavement Support to client families via a range of mediums including in person, phone, and text message.
- Deliver Bereavement Support to clients and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Visit hospitals and maintain productive working relationships with hospital based Social Workers and other staff.
- Create, maintain, and enhance bereavement resources.
- Maintain timely and accurate notes on interactions with clients.
- Ensure occasions of bereavement services and supports are accurately recorded for statistical data.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance policies pertaining to bereavement and services provided by the organisation.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships and networks with referring organisations, other non-government organisations.
- Provision of assistance to team members, committee and volunteer parent supports as required.
- Provide training to business and other community organisations on supporting a bereaved person empathically.
- Assist at community, networking and fundraising events.
- Co-ordinate and run support group meetings.
- Supervise Student Social Worker placement.

Selection Criteria
The essential requirements for this role are:
- Experience in Counselling or Social Work (with the ability to gain membership accreditation with their relevant association body) with client support and ideally incorporating Bereavement Support.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to share personal stories of recovery in a professional manner.
- Peer support experience (e.g., providing/receiving peer support, participating in the peer group).
- Experience providing support, mentoring, and/or coaching.
- Good computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft Word.
- Ability to work as part of a small team plus independently.
- Police Check, current Ochre Card, and a valid Northern Territory Driver’s license.
Desirable requirements of the role include:
- Experience developing and/or delivering presentations and training.
- Experience working with people who have experienced child loss.
- Experience running support group meetings.
- Experience working within a Social and Emotional Well-being framework.
