Business Development Manager

Pacific Industrial Company (PIC) is a highly regarded private company and a recognised leader in the Australian steel fabrication and construction industry. We provide steel design, fabrication and construction services to the construction, mining, oil & gas sectors Australia wide. 

A great opportunity has become available for an experienced and hands-on Business Development Manager to join our friendly team at our Naval Base head office.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Director, your responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing and directly manage the estimating team and work with the senior leadership team around strategy, growth, and development.
• Market the company’s capability to key decision makers in our areas of operation
• Further the company’s professional image in the marketplace and report on trends, market movements and insights
• Oversee feasibility / budget cost plans to assist in new project identification and early contractor involvement works.
• Conduct risk assessment and management activities to evaluate all commercial, financial, legislative and resource risk associated with tenders.
• Lead the bid pricing development process including establishing a subcontract and supplier base by trade, providing scopes of services, engagement, analysis and review of supplier pricing submissions and quotations.
• Review tender documentation ensuring a full and complete understanding of the technical and commercial commitment to which the Company will be obligated.
• Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. 
• Review subcontractor submissions and evaluate their compliance, accuracy, and competitiveness.
• Manage a high-quality bid handover from the tender team to the project team ensuring that key pricing information is transferred for successful delivery.
• Lead and manage a team of estimators, providing guidance, training, and support. 

About you:

• Demonstrated ability to generate major project work, potentially with a background in project delivery
• Focused on delivering solutions to new and existing clients and building enduring relationships with key decision makers
• Demonstrated leadership experience working in a construction environment.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with current and prospective clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Exceptional internal and external stakeholder management skills
• Excellent client development and management skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. 
• Previous experience in pre-contracts in a construction setting desired. 
• Diploma in Estimating/Quantity Surveying, Bachelor Commerce, Bachelor Engineering
• Ten (10) years of experience working in the fabrication, construction, mining, oil and gas industry is advantageous but not critical
• Must have full Australian working rights and the ability to complete a successful background check.
